I moved to Europe because of a girl. It was a pretty stupid reason, but it seems funny to me now. I decided to go for a PhD in chemistry because I figured that would be the easiest way for me to get a long-term visa to stay in England. I was given a tuition wavier, but I had to pay for my room and board myself. I did so with $60,000 in student loans.
All told I spent four years in England and ended up with a PhD in Computational Biochemistry. I also visited Scotland, Wales, Ireland, N. Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain, Sweden, and Norway, so I’d say it was pretty well worth it, even though I didn’t get the girl.
The planned title for the book about Europe is I am an Idiot: Important Life Lessons I Learned in Europe.
